Therapy FAQs
What are the types of therapy you offer?
I have knowledge and experience of a range of therapy models and psychological theories. All therapy sessions will draw on this expertise and be adapted to suit your specific needs. Some specific models I use are:
- Schema Therapy: Schema Therapy focuses on deep, lifelong patterns called schemas. We look at when core emotional needs have been unmet and how this has shaped behaviour, coping, and relationships. We use a range of techniques to help you understand these patterns and find the internal strength to meet your emotional needs. This therapy can be useful for individuals that have noticed patterns in their lives they want to change or have found other therapy models ineffective.
- Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It helps individuals identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns that contribute to emotional distress. It can be useful for specific issues, such as anxiety and depression.
- Behavioural Family Therapy: Behavioural Family Therapy is a practical skills-based intervention. The aim is to support the family unit to understand and support the emotional wellbeing of each family member. This therapy promotes positive communication, problem solving skills and stress management within the family / couple.
How can therapy help me?
Therapy can help with a range of issues, such as:
- Understanding and managing emotions, including anger and aggression
- Low self-esteem or high self-criticism
- Developing assertiveness and advocating for yourself
- Relationship and family dynamics
- Trauma-related issues including sexual, physical and emotional abuse or neglect
- Mental health needs, such as anxiety and depression
- Personality difficulties or personality disorder diagnoses
- Developing your independent sense of identity
- Drug and alcohol dependency
- Understanding and managing intrusive thoughts
In therapy, we explore the current issue and the patterns that underlie this problem. We then work together to think about how you can change this issue and achieve your therapy goals.
How much does therapy cost?
A free 20 minute consultation is available to find out more about the services available to you. This can help you to understand if this is the right service for you before any commitment to sessions.
Individual therapy sessions are £120 (50 minute session) and family / couples sessions are £150 (60 minute session) for up to four family members. If you require therapy for a larger family group, please get in contact to discuss.
I also accept cover from a range of health insurance providers. Please discuss with health insurance provider in the first instance whether your plan covers therapy and to gain pre-authorisation.
Who can access therapy?
I work with adults over the age of 18. I aim to adapt my approach to the needs of my clients. If you are concerned about how your needs may be met within the psychology space, please arrange an initial consultation so we can discuss further any adaptions that you may require.
Where does the therapy take place?
I offer therapy at the Chichester Therapy Rooms, 14 Cawley Road, Chichester, West Sussex. I also offer online therapy for those in other areas or those preferring to meet virtually.
How long does therapy last?
Length of therapy will be dependent on the individual and their therapy needs. Some people may find that they feel better after a short number of sessions (e.g. 6 to 8 sessions). Others may find that they need longer to understand the core roots of what has brought them to therapy and to feel confident that they have developed skills to fulfil their needs within therapy.
Cancellation policy
Your timeslot is reserved exclusively for you, and although life can sometimes get in the way of attending, you are asked to advise of any cancellations with as much notice as possible. Where there is availability, I will endeavour to offer an alternative appointment if that would be helpful.
The full session fee will be charged for all appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the planned appointment. This cancellation rate would need to be paid in order to continue with therapy.
I'm in crisis. What can I do?
Please note I am not able to offer crisis support to any new or existing clients.
